What do the toy trains represent in the novel, Nightbitch?

The trains with which Nightbitch and her son are constantly playing symbolize monotony. The trains literally run on tracks that move in a circle. In this way, they represent the endless and repetitive nature of Nightbitch's time at home with her child.
