In "Smokes Last," what story does Frick tell about shooting in his childhood, and how does it reinforce a motif in the way he relates to David?

Frick tells a story about shooting at white kids out on the ice. From earlier stories, it is clear that Frick dislikes the fact that his stepson's biological father is white, and Frick gets irritated when David does anything that strikes him as more "white" than "Native." His story about shooting at white kids, consciously or unconsciously, is designed to point out to David that whites are the enemy and David should be on the Native side in this "battle."
