In "Smokes Last," how do David and Tyson end up breaking a window?

When David and Tyson are passing the bar, an adult white man badgers them for a cigarette. When they refuse to give him one, he uses racist insults, and they retaliate by throwing rocks. The rocks miss the man but break the window of the bar behind him.
