Neuromancer describes the beach as a sort of land of the dead. Since Linda is there, this seems very fitting. Neuromancer also describes the place as being the same as himself, saying that both are the road to the dead. Neuromancer seems to place more significance on appearing as dead people and adopting their characteristics. Linda says that the place is strange because the container she lives in gets smaller as you get closer to it, and the city is an infinite distance away.
