How is Case tricked in this chapter?

When Case enters the library, he sees the image of the Finn appear and expects it to be Wintermute. It is not, however, and Wintermute tries to warn Case of this through the Braun. Case does not understand the warning, and jacks in anyway. He discovers too late that he has been tricked, and the other AI already has control of him.
