What messages did Jack get at the beginning of Chapter 12?

Jack received two messages. The first one told him that because of an anticipated storm, the opening race was to start at eight a.m. instead of nine. The second message was a telegraph. It was from his father and said that his leave had been postponed and he couldn't come for fall break.
