What does Jack consider wishing for in the boathouse in Chapter 6 and what does he wish for?

Jack considers wishing that his mom wasn't dead or his father wasn't in the navy or wished that he was back in Kansas. Since he knows that none of those wishes can come true, he wishes that he had a better boat.
