Why does O'Connor advise that if an author is called a Southern writer he is best to rid himself of the title as soon as possible?

O'Connor feels that the term grotesque is misused. She says any Southern literature read by Northern readers is immediately referred to as "grotesque." Anything that is grotesque will be called realistic.
