At first, the arduous task feels like pure abuse to Tiller. He cannot understand what he has done to deserve this fate. With time, however, Tiller rearranges his thinking. Instead of resisting the pain of the process, Tiller embraces it. At the end of the novel, Tiller similarly leans into life's challenges, instead of trying to deflect or hide from them. The author even depicts him crafting his own batches of curry in the kitchen with Val and Veej.
