Marriage symbolizes the social and institutional means by which patriarchal injustices are maintained. Despite the fact that her own marriage was so horrific, Korede’s mother is obsessed with her daughters finding husbands. This tragic and ironic dynamic demonstrates how social and institutional structures may serve to entrap generations of women in patriarchal injustices, despite the clear evidence of those injustices.
