Why does Maya avoid Rosa even though she is her sister's friend in the novel, My Sister Rosa?

Maya senses there is something wrong with Rosa and does not become friends with her like Seimone does. Maya even avoids her sister after she becomes friends with Rosa because the two are mean to her.
