How did Frightful help Sam gather nuts?

Sam tethered Frightful to a hickory tree while he picked walnuts. She protected the nuts from the squirrels. The squirrels were terrified of her, so they stayed away from the hickory nuts while she was tethered there. So she saved the nuts for Sam until he could pick them.
