Since Dean Koontz is an author himself, it is easy for him to write a story that portrays his main character as a successful mystery writer. Despite the ease with which he could embellish on this subject, he doesn't. He dwells very little on the actual nuts and bolts of being a writer and the functions that surround it, with the exception of background to let the reader know that his character is published and popular, showing that he has been interviewed by People Magazine and how he abhors the publicity that sometimes comes with the territory.
