The book, Mount Everest, is a chronicle about the mountain and its discovery, mapping, and exploration. In 1796 a man named William Lambton was posted to India as a British soldier. Maps and surveys of the area were of great interest to the crown and he was tasked with creating a new survey of the area. The mountain, itself, was named after one of the engineers working with Lambton, named George Everest. He finished the work that Lambton began and developed innovative techniques that allowed him to push to the Himalayan foothills.
