What does Abby do with Laura's ring after she takes it off her mother-in-law's dying body in the novel, Motherthing?

Abby takes the ring off of Laura's body when she finds her dying, which she feels guilty about but cannot stop herself from doing. After missing a couple of opportunities to slip it back onto her body without being detected, she buries it in the yard.
