Mother Courage compares Kattrin to her other children. She calls Eilif "brave" and although she calls Swiss Cheese "stupid", she calls Kattrin "nothing". To Mother Courage, she has neither a positive or negative opinion of her daughter: she is ambivalent. She also sees Kattrin's muteness, which some might view as a disability, as a "mercy", clearly expressing her thankfulness that she doesn't have to hear her daughter speak.
