Who is Kali from Mortal Fear and what is their importance?

Kali is the woman married to Edward Berkmann. She was actually a member of a tribe in India when Berkmann and his father found her. Berkmann immediately fell for her and they had sex while he was a visitor in her village - a feat he'd never before accomplished. Berkmann asks Kali's father for her hand in marriage but the father refuses. Berkmann's father buys the girl for two thousand dollars and Berkmann notes that the girl doesn't seem to mind. It's Kali who does the majority of the killing. She's completely devoted to Berkmann and is very angry when she discovers that he's become enamored with Erin.
