Roosevelt's father is described as a good husband and father, as well as a generous and charitable man. He was a faithful member of the Madison Square Presbyterian Church, as well as the Union League Club and the Century Association. He was athletic and liked fine clothing. He had china-blue eyes, chestnut hair and beard, and a square jaw.
