Comment on language/style

Jackson uses language as a characterization mechanism throughout the novel. Each character speaks in their own voice, which often time changes depending on to whom they are speaking. This is significant because it helps develop a setting and context for the characters’ relationships and comfort with one another. It also gives the reader an intimate look into the natural inclinations and speech patterns of the characters.
