How does Martha respond when Connan asks who should be "master of the house" in the novel, Mistress of Mellyn?

Questioned by Connan upon his proposal of marriage about who should be the "master of the house" Martha answers, "I do not think that either a husband or his wife should be master in that sense. I think they should work together and if one has an opinion which he or she feels to be the only right one, he or she should adhere to it."
