What do the colony planets represent in the novel, Minority Report?

The colony planets, such as Centaurus X or “Centten”—the planet that Anderton is ultimately exiled to—represent freedom for Anderton. In the beginning of the story, when he first finds his name on a card as a predicted murderer, Anderton longs to flee to a colony planet in order to be outside the jurisdiction of Precrime, and thus be safe. In the end, when his murder of Kaplan ends up with a sentence of exile rather than life imprisonment, Centten represents a chance for Anderton and Lisa to continue living a normal life, albeit in a different environment.
