The novel is set in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The setting of this novel seems unusual as most novels of this genre are normally set in cities like Los Angeles or New York City. However, Minneapolis appears to be similar to these larger cities in that the same crimes that take place in those larger cities also take place in Minneapolis.
