The entire work is written from the third-person perspective, but Uris moves among from a lack of omniscience to partial omniscience and then finally, to total omniscience, dependent upon the characters and the circumstances in which they are placed. In some instances, it is critical to relate the thoughts of characters in order to enhance the plot and allow understanding of their motivations. In other circumstances, it is not necessary, for conversation, and other methods are used to reveal personalities and motivations.
