What are the motifs in Midnight Magic by Avi?

Loyalty is a motif in the story. Fabrizio is Mangus the Magician's servant. Fabrizio is fiercely loyal to Mangus, and for this reason he has insisted on going to the castle with him. If not for Fabrizio, Mangus might not have learned most of the truths he learns about the princess and Count Scarazoni. However, Fabrizio is forced to lie to Mangus on several occasions to protect his new friendship with the princess. This causes Mangus to doubt Fabrizio's loyalty to him.
