What is the author's style in Mick Harte Was Here by Barbara Park?

This story is told from the first person point of view of thirteen-year-old Phoebe Harte. Phoebe is the sister of twelve-year-old Mick Harte, who was killed in a bicycle accident. Phoebe makes a good narrator for this story because it is a story intended for children, teens and young adults. Phoebe is able to tell her story in a way that these age groups can relate to the things that Phoebe is experiencing.

Probably about seventy-five percent of Phoebe's story is told through exposition while twenty-five percent is made up of dialogue. Much of the expository sections of the book deal with Phoebe's attempts to sort out the way that she is feeling and reacting emotionally to the loss of her brother. It also during these sections of the book that Phoebe explains her motivations behind her odd behaviors and reactions to others during this time.
