Dolores Prida was a Cuban playwright living in New York whose play's performances were cancelled owing to the threats made on her life. Prida's association with the AreĆto Group meant that many exiles viewed her as an opposing force, a threat from within, since she was Cuban yet did not identify completely with the particular means and ends cherished by the mainstream Cuban exile community intent on winning 'la lucha.' Prida represents the fissuring of the Cuban community and the risk involved in being viewed as a 'traitor' to the Cuban cause, regardless of whether one's stance was 'traitorous' or whether it simply differed from the mainstream.
