Mexican Gothic
What is an example of foreshadowing in the novel, Mexican Gothic?
.
.
In Catalina’s letter to Noemí’s father, she wrote of “the web upon which the spider walks making the strings vibrate” (7). While this phrase is part of a series of seemingly disconnected images that include the ouroboros, it can be viewed as Catalina’s early perception of being trapped in the house by the gloom. It also produces foreshadowing in the sense that High Place is a trap that Noemí is about to step into. The narration later compares the gloom itself to a spider’s web, describing it as “shivering and waiting, like a spider’s web” (251).
