Menagerie, a Child's Fable
How does the author use personification in Menagerie, a Child’s Fable?
.
.
Johnson uses the literary device of personification in order to comment on the brutal, animalistic elements of social power in human society. A direct example of this is found in Berkeley's statement at the end of the story, that they should have been able to co-exist peacefully, because after all, "we're all animals," is meant to be interpreted as a statement that human beings should be able to coexist peacefully in a global community because, after all, we're all humans.
