In exactly three sentences, Habara tells the reader all of the personal information he knows about the woman he privately refers to as Scheherazade. He says that she is 35 years old and that she is a full-time housewife with two young children. He also adds in parentheses that "she was also a registered nurse and was apparently called in for the occasional job" (115). Already, Scheherazade's credibility is brought into question, but the reader is reminded that Habara does not care one way or another about the verity of Scheherazade's stories. He is enthralled with the stories Scheherazade tells him just after they have sex, particularly because she always seems to have to leave just before the climax of the story.
