The unnamed narrator half-jokingly asserts that all parents who tout the joys of raising children are just trying to get everyone else in the world to be shouldered with the same burden that they must carry. The narrator and his wife did not have children and they are still happily married, so the narrator feels that he and his wife made the right decision for their own life together.
