Who is Sigmund Freud from Memories, Dreams, Reflections and what is their importance?

Sigmund Freud was a 19th century pioneer in the field of psychology. He brought recognition to the importantance of human sexuality within the field. Freud had a lot of influence on Jung, and the two men were friends. Jung, in fact, describes Freud as the most socially powerful person he ever met. Over the course of time, however, the two ceased being friends because Jung could not be "an acolyte" to Freud.
