what is the main idea of david sedaris' essay "you cant kill the rooster"?

I'm not sure if there's an underlying message in the piece, or what . . any help would be greatly appreciated(:

The main idea is to introduce his brother Paul, clearly the oddball among the Sedaris children. Paul, like his father Lou, has very little in common with Sedaris. I think the main idea is to explore how personalities are already set in our DNA.
