The significance of the metaphors in Maurice Kenny's poem, Legacy, is that of inheritance. It is not the usual inheritance, though, where one might expect to be bequeathed family relics, property, or money. Instead, they heirs are given wealth of a different sort (hence the metahors). They are left the wealth of knowing that the sun and moon can offer them a glimpse of their inheritance to mankind and as those traveling and living on planet Earth.
