Importance of Zoo?

The zoo, towards the end of the chapter titled "Full Moon," is a place in which a myriad of different species of animal is able to get along, cooperate, and celebrate together. Demonstrating a kind of harmonious environment, the zoo represents Earth's diversity and the surprising realization that creatures of all sorts are, deep down, much more similar than they might appear to be. Certainly, this is the lesson that Jane and Michael draw from their experience wandering around the zoo one night. Emphasizing this point is the fact that human beings are put inside the cages of the zoo when the animals are given free reign, reminding the reader that human beings are no different than animals, and that a certain equality exists between every living creature which can be manipulated at times but is nonetheless true.
