Frederick Engels was a major contributor to Marx's works and helped support Marx during his time in London. Engels was born in Germany to a wealthy family. His father was a textile manufacturer, and in 1842, he left Prussia to work in his father's Manchester office. As a result of his contact with the working class, Engels was pushed far to the left of Hegel. He published "The Condition of the Working Classes in England" in 1945, and he also published an article in the "Annals" that captured Marx's attention. After meeting, the two men became friends.
