Why do you suppose the children hated the marigolds? Explain your ideas
The children do not actually hate the marigolds, their purpose is to irritate Miss Lottie. In the end, Lizabeth destroys the marigolds because she's jealous of the fact that Miss Lottie has something beautiful in an otherwise ugly world.
