Besides her innate intelligence and determination, Montessori's refusal to give up her dreams because of her gender was largely responsible for her success. Montessori was fortunate to have parents who encouraged her, but even their encouragement could not assist Marie in the challenges she faced as a woman. She was isolated and made fun of.... she was a trailblazer, who had to make her own way, and set her own path. Thus, I'd have to say her strength of character and tenacity outweighed all else in determining her success.
