What does Askar’s Parents represent?

Askar’s parents symbolize lost history. Askar’s father died fighting the Ethiopians, and his mother died giving birth to Askar. Thus, Askar has a rather tenuous grasp on his personal origins, and yet he still feels a strong connection to his ideas of his parents.
