Manifesto: On Never Giving Up
How does the author describe her childhood home in the memoir, Manifesto: On Never Giving Up?
.
.
Evaristo describes her childhood home in Woolwich as being in a state of constant disrepair due to her father’s determination to do all home improvement projects himself. She characterizes the house in a way that makes it representative of the chaotic and crowded nature of her childhood, as well as a place where she was not able to fully tap into her creativity due to the lack of privacy. However, she also reflects that she is glad for the socially free atmosphere in which she lived, writing, “I am glad that I didn’t grow up in a home or within a family where society’s norms were paramount” (54).
