How does the author use foreshadowing in Mallory's Oracle?

In Chapter Eight, Edith tries to convince Butler to stop Mallory from going near Redwing. Redwing is a dangerous woman. Edith says she knows when she feels evil and that Mallory is in over her head. Edith is having more premonitions like she did shortly before Max died and once again is incapable of doing anything about it. Edith feels guilty about having foresight and asks Butler if destiny is writ.
