What happens when Susan addresses Charles' involvement in Conway's murder in the novel, Magpie Murders?

Even though Susan is sympathetic with Charles’ reasons for killing Conway, she tells him that she is morally obligated to turn him in to the police. In response, he hits her on the head, a blow that permanently damages her vision, and attempts to kill her by setting the office on fire.
