1. How does Paul characterise Keller at their first meeting?

Paul says: "red glow of his face- a boozer's incandescent glow. The pitted, sun-coarsened skin- a cheap, ruined leather. And the eyes: an old man's moist wobbling Jellies."

Paul describes Keller as having a "think" accent "continental".

Paul also describes Keller's hands: "dainty, faintly ridiculous hands" "small and podgy like inflated gloves, they narrowed delicately, fastidiously, towards the tips of his fingers" etc. Also "most of the right little finger was missing"

Paul also believes due to the shape of Keller's hands that he would be "incapable of straddling a fifth, let alone an octave."
