Why does Mother blame Madeleine for her troubles with the town's people?

Mother blames Madeleine for her trouble with the town's people. She blames her because if it hadn't been for her sleeping, their orchard would have not had so much fruit. If the orchard had less, fruit mother would have not opened her business.
