What does Maya represent?

Maya is symbolic of trust and conflicting loyalty within the work. As a best friend to both Asher and Lily, she struggles to know who to support once the trial begins as she does not want to betray Asher or Lily’s memory. She was one of the only people who Lily trusted to disclose her status, and she kept her confidence when she could not rely on anybody else.
