Machines Like Me

When Charlie realizes he cannot return Adam for reprogramming, he decides to exploit his technological skills, and has him make his money for him buying and selling stocks. Adam works tirelessly, earning thousands of dollars, which Charlie cashes and hides. Amidst this conflict, Adam also increasingly inserts himself into Miranda's legal affairs. Just before the climactic moment of the novel, Adam reveals that he has turned Miranda in, and has taken and redistributed all of their money. Charlie smashes him over the head. He recites a final haiku and requests that they return his body to Turing so his mental data can be recovered.
