Initially, Macbeth is happy with his position and accomplishments. After meeting the witches, however, he sees that he has higher aspirations.... though, he is not interesting in forcing the issue or working towards attaining it until his wife baits him into action. After Duncan's murder, however, Macbeth becomes obsessed with power and insuring that he will hold onto it..... he takes each of the prophecies to heart and relentlessly murders all who might interfere.
