Helga has wanted a baby for some time. While Gallimard shows little regard for whether they have a baby together, Helga becomes very passionate and forward about her need to have a child, as she is getting older and her window is closing on that part of her life. She begs Gallimard to see a doctor so they may know their options regarding pregnancy. Gallimard seems to want a baby for different reasons, more for tradition than paternal need.
