Luster
How does Rebecca really feel about the reality of an open marriage in the novel, Luster?
.
.
Rebecca considers herself progressive and wants to have an open marriage, but her actions do not match her words. She gives Eric a list of rules for their open marriage that are hand-written and constantly changing. She gives him so many rules and regulations to follow that he and Edie do not actually sleep together until they have been seeing one another for nearly two months. And, even then, their union is only accomplished when Eric decides to break Rebecca’s rules, ignore her phone calls, and bring Edie to his house.
