What does Hippolyta find when she travels to Warlock Hill in the novel, Lovecraft Country?

When Hippolyta travels to Warlock Hill to visit the oberservatory, she finds a secret machine that is able to open portals to distant worlds. Through one of the portals, she finds Ida, the last surviving member of an exploratory party led by Hiram Winthrop.
