Young's diary in Part II is a symbol of his obsession with hyung, and of hyung's controlling behavior in their relationship. At the beginning of Part II, Young discovers his diary from five years earlier in his mailbox, having been put there by hyung, who left "red editorial marks" (50) on the pages. The diary is where Young recorded all of his thoughts about hyung and his feelings for him, and a diary, composed of someone's personal thoughts and feelings, is a document that would not ordinarily be edited by an outside party. Young clearly gave the diary to hyung for him to read and learn how much Young loved him, and in return, hyung exerted his controlling influence by marking the pages with editorial notes.
